The House

Tyn y Simdde (pronounced tin-uh- sim the) is a shortened form of “Tyddyn y simdde” meaning means ‘The Chimney House’. “Simdde” is the Merioneth version of the standard word “simnai”(chimney). Further north, in the old Caernarfonshire and A glesey the word used would be “simdda”.The house  got it’s name from an unusual architectural feature, a window in the gable end underneath the chimney.  The chimney flue goes round the window!

Information

At Tyn y Simdde we are lucky enough to have water coming from its own spring on the bank above the cottage.  All the water at Tyn y Simdde is filtered and is perfect for drinking water. The safety of the water is checked and monitored annually by the relevant authority.

There is a wood burner in the inglenook fireplace for those extra chilly nights, or just because you love a fire. We provide all our guests with a complimentary basket of logs, kindling and firelighters. Any additional logs are available at £8 per basket (net) and should be ordered at time of booking, or at least 2 weeks before arrival.

 Driveway to the cottage:

Drive through the forest to the cottage.

Garden:

The garden has views over the Hermon Valley and Cader Idris and opens up into the forest around the cottage. This is Forestry Commission land and you are welcome to use the forest and explore. Because we are within the Forestry Commission we are not permitted to have any outside fires.  There is a barbeque provided for the summer months which you are welcome to use. Please make sure that is it put back in the shed in the morning after the use.

The fields next to the cottage are sheep fields, so please keep a close eye on pets, especially at lambing time. There are deer in the forest and plenty of other interesting scents for dogs to follow. The forest is a large area, so if you have dogs with you, please keep a close eye on them.
